How well TESLIN® substrate protects printed content — comparison conditions: Taber abrasion test @ 300 cycles

TESLIN substrate is clearly more abrasion-resistant than other synthetics.

Why use TESLIN® substrate for durable labels?

Why use TESLIN® substrate for durable labels?

No special coating is needed for printing; it reduces static on labels (passes ESD S.541 @ 50% RH) and prints last longer.

Teslin substrate reduces the risk of ink and adhesive ageing seen with coated or multi-layer synthetics.

Chemical drum labels

Unlike other synthetics, Teslin was designed specifically to pass BS 5609 certification & meet GHS commitments.

Its unique microporous structure locks in ink & adhesive so they bond firmly with the substrate.

The United Nations (UN) established the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), covering all chemical products shipped by sea.

At the UN's request, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) developed the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, replacing earlier local and regional shipping regulations.

IMDG Code

  • Requires durable labels certified to BS 5609
  • BS 5609 requires labels to remain attached to drums after more than 90 days at sea.
  • Teslin substrate labels have passed BS 5609 Type 2 certification (tested by PPG), and several customers have obtained Type 3 certification.

GHS

  • A global system for classifying, identifying and labelling chemicals
  • Through pictograms, GHS gives chemical identification a common global language.
  • Requires specially produced labels to comply with UN and IMO regulations.
  • Countries around the world have adopted, or plan to adopt, GHS labelling.
